5.16 crores disbursed under different welfare schemes: Khoda | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 26: The Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda today said that Jammu and Kashmir Police Organization has launched several schemes for the welfare of its jawans, their families and retired personnel. He said that during past six months from January 2010 till date Rs. 5.16 crores have been paid out of Special Contributory Police Welfare Fund (SCPWF) to benefit families of deceased police personnel The DGP was speaking at a senior police officers meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) today. The meeting was convened to review various welfare schemes and its implementation for the serving jawans, their families and retired personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police Organization. He said various welfare measures were under consideration for the families of police personnel and stressed upon the officers for quick disbursement of welfare relief to affected families of police personnel who laid down their lives while performing their professional duties. He said several schemes have been launched in this regard, adding that Special Contributory Police Welfare Fund is under implementation to provide succour to the families of personnel who die in-service irrespective of the cause of death. The meeting discussed in detail the possibilities of enhancing the special welfare relief fund from present slab of Rs. 6 lacs and other welfare measures to benefit the serving and retired police personnel. The meeting discussed measures to be taken to generate more resources for the purpose. It was decided that the decision to this effect would be taken by the Central Police Welfare Fund Committee in its next meeting to be convened shortly. The DGP stressed upon the officers to chalk out the modalities to re-fix relief structures for the next of kin (NOKs) of martyrs, serving jawans, their families and retired personnel. He further said that 30 retired police personnel have received relief during the period. He said that families of martyrs get a relief package of Rs. 13.50 lacs while as those who die in harness, because of accidents or natural causes, are given Rs. 8.50 lacs which includes Rs. 6 lacs from Special Contributory Police Welfare Fund. In addition Rs. 2.50 lacs are paid as insurance claim. However, the families of martyrs get additional Rs. 5 Lacs as ex-gratia relief, Khoda added. The DGP said that this special relief package has been possible because of the initiation of (SCPWF) which was started way back in 1983. Since this fund is exclusively generated by monthly contribution from police ranks with no supplementation from Government, the relief to the families of such personnel was enhanced from time to time with corresponding increase in monthly contribution.
