18045 appear in CET | | | MISHU GUPTA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 26: As many as 18045 candidates today appeared in the common entrance test (CET) conducted by the Board of Professional Entrance Examination. As compared to the previous year, there was a sizeable rise in the number of candidates appearing in the CET this year. Last year, around 16,000 candidates appeared in the exam in the state while this year this number will increase by 2045. According to BPEE Chairman, Mushtaq Ahmed Peer nearly 18045 aspirants appeared in today's examination which was held at 28 centres (16 in Jammu and 12 in Srinagar) in the state. Last year the examination was held at 22 centres--12 in Jammu and 10 in Srinagar. The total attendance remained 99.2 percent. In Jammu, 9352 students appeared, while in Kashmir the attendance goes to 8693. Besides, Crime Branch sleuths were deployed in adequate number in each of the examination centre to check the cases of impersonation, he added." The number of seats available in the state is approximately 2000 ( Medical 947 and in Engineering 967) for which 18,045 students were competing. In the first phase, the students were tested in Physics and Chemistry subjects whereas, tomorrow, in the second phase of CET, the students will be tested in Biology and Mathematics for admission to different professional courses including MBBS, BE, BAMS, BUMS, BSc Agriculture etc A majority of the candidates looked cheerful while stepping out of the exam centres, as they found the paper easy. To ensure the smooth conduct of the examination, the board had constituted monitoring squads. The DSP, crime branch and a team from the university paid surprise visits at all centres during the examination. College teachers were assigned duty to supervise the examination. On of the officer on duty said, "The chances of impersonation were absolutely negligible as we had put our own hallmark on the answer sheets as well as on the roll number slips of the candidates." Meanwhile, the candidates were found little nervous ahead of the test. A group of candidates said, "Though we have completed preparations for the test, we are little nervous." However, the candidates were also satisfied with the kind of arrangements BPEE had made for the smooth conduct of examination. One of the students Abhishek Gupta, who took the CET, said the test was for two hours. "Despite being lengthy, the test was easy. It is good that there will be no negative marking," he added. Shagun Sharma , another student, said this was her first attempt. Though she was nervous before entering the examination hall, she was relieved once she saw the question paper. Igoist"Chemistry and physics papers were all right, but mathematics was lengthy. We did not find time to solve all problems," said Sohila , Neha, Amarpreet and other students. Similar views were shared by the students appearing in Government College for Women, "Physics paper was tough", they said in unison. On the other hand , many students like Sachit Chaudhry, Pawan Preet and scores of students found the papers 'all-right'. Hundreds of students took the CET (Common Entrance Test) examination this morning. The boys and girls appearing for this examination aspire to be future engineers. It was a balanced paper. The thrust was on the XI and XII syllabus, a physics lecturer, said. "The paper was very easy this year as compared to last year. The examiner has set a balanced question paper," added another Professor of GCW Gandhi Nagar . She also added that the paper was good for average as well as above average student. Aayush Goyal, a student, of a coaching centre, Sector 15, said most questions were from assignments. "All questions were from within the syllabus and we were thoroughly prepared to take on this challenge," said Mandeep Kaur, another aspirant. Students also showed resentment on clash of JKCET and admission BA/B.Sc/B/Com Part 1 in different colleges falling under University of Jammu and JKCET as today was also the last date for submission of application forms for admission. Many students had to either skip admission or JKCET. They demanded that there should be better coordination among University of Jammu and Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE).
