Ladakh meet on Sowa Rigpa concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT LEH, June 27:The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Leh organized a daylong seminar entitled "Sowa Rigpa", the science of Amchi medicine, at the Conference Hall, Leh on Sunday. Chering Dorje, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh was the chief guest at the first session while and Tsering Angchuk, Deputy, Commissioner /CEO, Leh was the chief guest at the second session. As part of the first ever seminar on "Sowa Rigpa" twelve prominent local doctors (Amchis) presented their scholarly papers. A galaxy of scholars and writers were also present on the occasion. In his address, Chering Dorje, Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, laid stress on the need for practicing indigenous medical system like "Sowa Rigpa" side by side with modern medical system. He said that there were challenges to modern medical system which indigenous stem had tackled in the past. Addressing the seminar, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Tsering Angchuk expressed his happiness over the role and function of Leh Academy in the promotion of Ladakhi Culture and Language and assured that District Administration was ready to extend its full support to the Academy in its endeavours. During his speech, Tsering Norboo, a local physician of repute, said that we need to remain abreast with changes that cause new diseases, and their effective cure. Earlier welcoming the chief guests and other dignitaries, Special Officer for Culture, Mipham Otsal highlighted the role and function of the Academy in the preservation and promotion of culture of Ladakh.
