Govt urged to withdraw taxes on petroleum products | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, june 27 : Expressing concern over unprecedented hike in the prices of petroleum products, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today asked the State Government to withdraw the additional taxes already imposed on such items during this budget. In a joint statement issued here today, PDP vice president Trilok Singh Bajwa and MLA Darhal Choudhary Zulfikar regretted that instead of taking control of the prices of essential commodities, government has increased prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene oil and LPG. PDP leaders observed such unprecedented hike would put additional burden on the people who have been already facing hardship due to skyrocketing prices of the essential commodities. PDP leaders regretted that state governments in other parts of the country have already announced some relief for their citizens but in Jammu and Kashmir the State Government seems to be non serious in solving this problem. They pointed out that during this year's budget, the State Government has imposed additional tax on petroleum products and recent hike would be additional burden on the people. They asked the government to immediately withdraw the taxes to give some relief to the people. Choudhary Zulfikar reminded the state government the debate during budget session in the Assembly and said he had raised this issue and had asked the government to roll back the taxes. Trilok Singh Bajwa, however, said that farmers were the worst victim of the unprecedented hike in the price of diesel. He asked the state government to provide diesel to the farmers on subsidized rates. |
