Sham lays foundation of PHC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JUNE 27 : In order to provide medicare facilities to the people of rural and far-flung areas at their doorsteps, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr Sham Lal Sharma today laid foundation stone of new Public Health Centre (PHC) at village Dori Dager in Khour Block. The double storey building of PHC with residential quarters for doctors and para-medical staff would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.92 crore within a time span of one year. Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma, Vice Chairman OBC Advisory Board, Master Kuldeep Verma, SDM, Akhnoor, Mr. Ashok Sharma and sectoral officers of various departments were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Dori Dager has been declared as a tourist destination and also a large number of pilgrims are visiting to pay obeisance at the famous shrine of "Baba Mai Mal', therefore, adequate medicare facilities for the people are to be ensured by the Government. He said that all necessary diagnostic facilities and services of specialists doctors will be made available in this hospital which has huge area of catchment, the Minister maintained. Sharma said that the Coalition Government headed by Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah is concentrating on the consolidation of health infrastructure at present, but the new areas where medical facilities are badly needed will receive due attention and further expansion will be made purely on merit basis. The efforts are being made to shift all the health institutions in the Government buildings, which are presently functioning in rented buildings, said Mr. Sharma. He further informed that presently the works of worth Rs. 14 crore on the construction of health institutions in Akhnoor tehsil are in progress. He asked the engineers to maintain quality of work and make judicious use of funds. Madan Lal Sharma in his address complemented the local people for the hospital at Dori Dager. He said that Centre and State Governments are committed to improve the living conditions of the rural people and striving hard for ensuring all round development of all three regions of the State. He said that Central leadership is providing liberal funding to Jammu and Kashmir for completion of all on-going development projects in time. He asked the Minister to upgrade the medicare facilities in the hilly belt and open new health institutions at far-flung areas where people have to cover a long distance on foot to avail medical treatment. The Member Parliament assured the people that efforts will be made to establish separate Niabat and Block office at Dori Dager for the facilities of the people, keeping in view the difficult terrain of this hilly belt. He also assured that all basic facilities to this area will be provided. |
