Sadhus stage protest, beat media persons | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 27: Alleging mismanagement, over 100 sadhus today staged protest against the government and blocked the city roads here. Sadhus this morning assembled at busiest Canal Road Chowk and staged demonstration against the state authorities alleging mismanagement in catering them ahead of upcoming Amarnath yatra. For pilgrims, all arrangements have been made at Yatri Niwas, the base camp for the pilgrimage but for sadhus, the arrangements have been made at Panjtirthi, which is faraway place from the base camp, one of the sadhus alleged. He said the government should have made arrangements for the sadhus also at the Yatri Niwas. Meanwhile, the Sadhus amid slogans and chanting ‘bam bam bhole’ disrupted the traffic and blocked the road thus creating problem to the commuters. Police party however, rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident. Later, some of the protesting Sadhus also removed their clothes and staged a sit-in at the busy Indira Chowk. Their protest turned violent when some of the Sadhus beat few media persons who were on the job to cover the protest. After getting the information of the protest demonstration, few media persons rushed to the spot to cover the protest. But when they reached there, Sadhus attacked them with sticks and bricks. A photojournalist of local newspaper got injuries in the incident.
