NGO to fight against honour killings | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 27: Women Empowerment Forum (WEF), an NGO, with its aim for making women as a pillar of society, today raised the issue of 'honour killings', which they term is uncivilized and brutal act. Addressing the press conference, President (WEF), Dr.Anuradha Goswami said ``We criticise Taliban for dress-code for girls, Pakistan for terrorism, Australia for attack on Indians, whereas our government, politicians have closed their eyes to the sane thoughts and indulging in insanity and mindless killing''. In country like India where gay relationship, living-in relationship have been legalized by Supreme court then why sacred and pious relationship based on humanitarian ground is sacrificed in the name of "Honour Killing". She, meanwhile, appreciated the efforts of Shakti Vahini, a Delhi based NGO, which has filed a case in the Supreme Court to provide police protection to such young couples. Goswami condemned the triple murder case at Delhi, Bibi Jagir Kour case and some deaths reported from Haryana, Rajasthan and 19 year old were beaten with metal rods and then electrocuted by the girl's family and appealed the people to raise a voice against such heinous crimes. Dr.Anuradha Goswami appealed the government to make stringent laws against the culprits and also appealed the general masses to think wisely and shun such crimes in the name of "Honour Killing" which is not honour but dishonour. Among who were present in the press conference included, Jyoti Sharma, Promila, Gurpreet Kour, J.P.Singh, Salim Quershi and others.
