BJP Mahila Morcha protests price hike
6/27/2010 11:43:59 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 27: To demonstrate their anger against the unprecedented hike in the prices of petroleum products, BJP Mahila Morcha activists, led by State President Sakina Bano, took out a protest rally, here today.
The rally started from party headquarters and after passing through the main bazars of the city, culminated at Parade.
Taking a serious notice over the adverse affects of the decision of the Congress- led UPA government about the price hike of the fuel products on the common masses, the Mahila Morcha activists in a unique way protested by dragging the vehicles with ropes on roads. Bano, who led the protest, while addressing the morcha activists, said that the country has been ruled by the Congress for most of the time since independence but it always misled the people by hollow sloganeering of eradicating poverty and making India a prosperous nation.
She also reminded the gathering that despite the fact that during BJP-led NDA regime the prices of essential commodities were well under control as compared to the what were noticed during successive Congress regimes or its coalition regimes. She said that the country faced international economic sanctions after Pokhran Tests, besides Kargil War and Tsunamis and earthquakes in different parts of the country during NDA rule but there was no price rise. It was so because the BJP was more concerned for the survival of the masses than a handful of big business houses, hoarders and black marketeers. She declared that the morcha will intensify its protests in the coming days if the UPA do not bring down the prices.
BJP State Gen. Secretary Usha Choudhary, State Secretaries Mamta Singh, Shilpi Verma and Purnima Sharma and other leaders of the Morcha including Kamla Gupta, Sushma Manhas, Rita Jamwal, Pinky Gupta, Vijay Raina, Raj Dulari, Sonia Gupta, Anuradha Charak, Priya Jral, Sangita Gupta, Tripta Jamwal, Shama Devi, Sunita Arora, Vidya Gupta and Nirmal Kumari were prominent among those who took part in the protest demonstration.
