EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 27: A Hindi play Chaska-e-Chori, written by Hari Mehta and directed by Balwant Thakur was presented here today at Natrang Studio Theatre in Natrang's weekly Sunday Theatre series. This hilarious comedy was not only a thrilling entertainer but also a strong message about the people who ruin their life and career by indulging into corrupt practices.
The play revolves round the story of a small time modern young thief who, despite pledging not to repeat this mischief, cannot control himself. Woven through comical acts the play unfolds series of incidents where this compulsive young man has to lose his reputation, and face police harassment for theft. Wherever he goes, his hands automatically start moving towards things and his bags and pockets are always filled with stolen items. Through and through he claims that when one time thieves can become the leaders of this nation why can't he lead a respectable life by pursuing a notorious profession with keenness. Every time when he steals something he is caught red-handed. Contesting the efficiency of the police he says that police counts its success only on small thieves like him but never dares to catch a big fish. A transformation comes in him when he looses his love in an attempt to impress her by portraying himself as an accomplished poet and singer and foolishly recites the poetry and compositions of others, claiming as his original creations. Over the time he realizes that intellectual corruption is much more serious a crime than stealing material things.
Pankush Verma played the lead role of the 'Thief' with full professional skill. His friend in whom he confides was played by Rahul Singh. Tajasvi Sharma in her short entry gave an impressive performance. Others who did supporting roles included Bipin Gupta, Vikram Sharma, Balwinder Singh, Karan Malhotra, Ishfaq Anwar, Vasu Gupta, Sunil Sharma, and Archit Nanda. The music of the play was scored by Mohit Sharma and Rohit Verma did the lights. Mohd. Yaseen coordinated the show and Sumeet Sharma did the presentations.
