Seized vehicles gathering dust at police stations | | | early times report JAMMU, June 29: Dozens of vehicles seized by the police department from the erring drivers are gathering dust at various police stations in Jammu region. As part of its routine drive, Police department seizes vehicles from the persons not having proper documents, or violating traffic norms or may be if found stolen one, the department registers case and place the vehicles within the four walls of the concerned police stations. If one gets a chance to visit some important police stations of the region including Gandhi Nagar Police Station, Muthi Police Station, Bhagwati Nagar Police Station, Nagrota Police Station, Bag-e-Bahu Police Station, Samba Police Station, and Jatwal Police Station in district Samba besides many other police station, hundreds of vehicles including two wheelers, cars, and some cases heavy vehicles including trucks are seen in abandoned condition in the police stations. A police personnel on the condition of anonymity revealed that majority of the vehicles that are seen in the police stations are those that are confiscated when found without papers or if found violating the norms. He further said that there are also cases, when any driver met with an accident resulting in human loss, the drivers instead of cooperating with police escapes and abandon the vehicles. There are also examples when concerned police officers are seen using stolen confiscated cars instead of using official vehicles without any care and efforts to trace the owners of the vehicles. And also in many cases that some persons were seen selling the parts and tools of the vehicles lying in the police stations, allegedly in connivance with the police officials.
