Safety of Amarnath pilgrims is our top priority: DIG Khan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 29: With emphasis on lending helping hand to the thousands of Amarnath bound pilgrims the state police department in Jammu opened Police assistance booth at Kunjwani by-pass and at several other locations to provide real time assistance to the pilgrims during the yatra period. One such police assistance counter was inaugurated by DIG Jammu-Kathua range Farooq Khan. On their arrival in Jammu the pilgrims were first of all garlanded and greeted by the DIG himself. Shaking hands with the devotees of Lord Shiva DIG urged them to pray for the peace and prosperity of the state while offering prayers at the cave shrine. The pligrims were also handed over information booklet with details of the route map of the pilgrimage and list of base camps, resting and accommodation facilities. DIG Farooq Khan on the occasion said that the state government is committed to protect the Amarnath bound pilgrims and for the purpose elaborate security arrangements have been made. DIG said that the safety of the Amarnath bound pilgrims figure high on the agenda of the state government and the security agencies are working hard to protect them and extend thick security blanket around them. We have provided a four tier security cover to the pilgrims he added without elaborating on the details. The senior police officer also appealed to the general masses not to spread rumours related to security of the pilgrims and take help of the police assistance booths in case of any emergency. DIG Khan said that up till now no specific terror alert has been intercepted linking it with the safety of the pilgrims. SP Headquarters JS Johar and several other police officers were also present on the occasion.
