Grenade attack in Poonch | Dozen landmines explode on LoC | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, June 29: Nearly a dozen mines exploded in Mankote area in Poonch district due to forest fire while unidentified persons hurled a grenade in Parade Park Poonch here today. However, no loss to human lives and property was reported in these incidents. Official sources said that nearly a dozen landmines exploded on Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote sector following the forests on LoC catches fire. The fire was broke out in four kilometers of forest and was spreading towards Balakote sector. The fire was seen yesterday in Chuhara Gali but the same was spread in whole Mankote LoC area in the morning. Range Officer of Forest Department in Balakote Range said that the fire was spread in an area of 4 to 5 kilometers. He said that a team of forest officials under the supervision of Forest Officer was sent to stock the situation arisen after the fire incident. "I have been told that the forest fire has exploded atleast 20 landmine blasts," he added. Police have expressed ignorance over the matter. "We have no information of any landmine blast on LoC," ASP Yougal Manhas said. Regarding incident of grenade blast, Police sources said that some unknown person hurled hand grenade in the Parade Park Poonch at about 5.45 p.m. However, no loss of lives or property has been reported. Assistant Superintendent of Police Poonch Yougal Manhas told Early Times that the blast was powerful and if it had been blasted after 6 p.m their might have been a major human loss because people were often visiting the place after 6 p.m on evening walk. "We have cordoned off the area and investigation is also going on in the incident", he added.
