EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 29: A farm labourer was last night murdered in his kacha house at Badgal Kalan in Akhnoor allegedly by his wife and younger brother with whom she had an illicit relationship.
Police sources identified the dead as Biru (30), son of Dewan Chand and the accused as his wife Ritu and brother Lalit (25). A contract killer, whom sources identified as Gulshan (19), son of Krishan Lal of Badgal Kalan, was hired by Lalit to execute the murder, the sources added.
All the three accused had been arrested. Ritu is mother of two children. Sources said Ritu had an illicit relationship with Lalit. As Biru was a hurdle on their way of meeting, they allegedly hatched a conspiracy to get rid of him, the sources added.
To kill Biru, Lalit hired the services of Gulshan. The deal was fixed at Rs 1.5 lakh, sources said.
Last night, Lalit and Gulshan went to the Biru's kacha house in the village along with two liquor bottles. All, including one Bubby of the same village, consumed liquor till in the night.
Sources said after Bubby left, Lalit and Gulshan allegedly offered Biru more liquor. After he lost consciousness due to heavy liquor consumption, the duo allegedly gagged him to death in the presence of Ritu, the sources added.
Biru's body was recovered by police from the kacha house in the morning. After completing legal formalities, police removed the body to the mortuary of sub-district hospital, Akhnoor. It would be handed over to his family members for last rites tomorrow after post-mortem.
Sources said during the course of investigation, the Akhnoor police got suspicious of Gulshan and picked him up for questioning. His sustained interrogation led them to the working out of the blind murder case within hours of its commission, the sources added. Lalit and Ritu were also arrested later. A murder case had been registered against the accused. Sources said Gulshan also confessed to have received Rs 35,000 from Lalit, who had agreed to pay him rest of the money, ie 1.15 lakh, after he killed Biru.
