Security tightens for yatra in Jammu | | | JAMMU: Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure that no dispute takes place during the annual Amarnath Yatra. The state government is spearing no effort to ensure smooth conduct of pilgrimage. Official sources said that security personnel including J&K Police and Paramilitary jawans have intensified their vigil in Jammu particularly areas adjoining to International Border (IB). Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Jammu-Kathua range, Farooq Khan said, "We have intensified the security in Jammu city and areas adjoining to International Border. Three to four grid system of security has been put in place and Police have been working in close coordination with troops on International border in view of recent incidents of infiltration bids by militants." "The troops of Border Security Force (BSF) have maintained tight vigil and we will ensure that no infiltration take place. If any such incident may occur, we will ensure that infiltrator not find an entry into city areas," the DIG said. The jawans of Police and Para-military have also launched a search operation on National Highway heading towards Srinagar to avert any untoward incident. Meanwhile, passengers from all over the country have started reaching Jammu for the Amarnath Yatra and from there batches of passengers leave daily from Yatri Niwas in Jammu, under the supervision of security personnel to Pahalgam or Baltal, from where the journey begins. But this time due to the fury of people of Kashmir towards the security personnel, safety of pilgrims, their health, prevention from excess winter and the security of passenger, the government has kept all possible arrangements so that the journey began and conclude in the smooth manner.
