Traders resume business on LoC | | | RAJOURI: After remaining suspended for five consecutive weeks, trade across Line of Control (LoC) on Poonch-Rawalkote route resumed today as 42 vehicles crossed the LoC involving trade of an approximate amount of Rs 2.50 crore. The trade on Poonch Rawalkote route was suspended on May 25, when traders had expressed their resentment against the government's decision to impose restrictions on imports of some items from across the LoC. The traders, however, after having meeting with the administration had decided to resume trade few days back. "We resume trade today and send our trucks to Rawalkote," Pawan Anand a senior member of Cross-LoC traders Association said, adding that the administration had assured them to redress their demands following which they had taken a decision to resume the trade. "If the demands are not fulfilled, we will re-think on the continuation of trade," he added. On the first day of the trade on Poonch-Rawalkote road, Rangeet Singh, Custodian told Early Times that 25 vehicles from Trade Centre Rangar were exported towards Rawalkote. However, only 17 vehicles were imported from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The main items exported were Chilies and coconut while items imported were 'Badam' (almond) and medicinal herbs. Rangeet Singh said that the trade would go ahead smoothly as the traders demands are being mitigated at higher level, adding that the amount involved on the first day was about Rs 2.50 crore.
