Traffic paralyzed for two hours after seizure of two vehicles | Fifteen vehicles seized on violation of traffic norms | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 30: Jammu roads today witnessed high pitched drama as mini bus drivers disrupted vehicular movement for more than two hours at ever busy Jewel Chowk following some of the passenger vehicle operators were penalized by traffic cops. It all began with the seizure of two mini buses by the traffic police personnel. The seized passenger vehicles were found plying on route other than permitted by the Regional Transport Office, Jammu. As soon as the mini buses were seized all hell broke loose at Jewel Chowk since around hundred of Jammu to Bakshi Nagar bound matadors were parked haphazardly by their drivers on road as a mark of protest against the alleged highhandedness of traffic police. Shouting slogans against the traffic department, the drivers union led by Anil Chopra went on a flash strike and staged a massive demonstration. They demanded release of the vehicles seized allegedly on charges of violation of route permit. Due to the protest of matador drivers, the traffic remained paralyzed for about two hours and long queues of stranded vehicles in and around Jewl Chowk were seen thereby bringing lot of hardships to the commuters. After the two hours long strike drivers resumed their work According to SSP Traffic, Jammu Zahid Manhas fifteen vehicles were seized by traffic police on the charges of violation of traffic rules in a day long drive today. Besides traffic police also seized thirteen other vehicles on the charges of violation of traffic norms in different locations of the city.
