SKUAST organizing training programme on water productivity in agriculture | | | ET Report Jammu, June 30: The Water management Research Centre at SKUAST Jammu is organizing fourteen days trainers training program on scaling up of water productivity in agriculture for livelihood through teaching cum demonstration w.e.f 21th June to July 4th which 22 officers from command area development department and three from SKUAST Jammu are participating. During the tenth day of the training program, director command, Nirmal Sharma interacted with the participated officer and she said that water availability per capita in India was over 5000 cubic meter per annum in 1950 and now it stands at about 2000 cubic meter and estimated to be just 1500 cubic meter by year 2035. She said water availability less than 1700 cu.m is considered as stress level on enhance agricultural productivity by improving and properly utilizing resources at hands. In this context, she said water management will play a key role in conserving and utilizing every drop of water to enhance crop productivity with less water. It is essential to adopt improved irrigation methods, optimum irrigation scheduling, appropriate soil and crop management practices to overcome constraints to high yield. Present training program under the supervision of Er. N.K.Gupta, nodal officer covers all important aspects on watershed basis for which efforts of SKUAST Jammu is highly appreciable. The training program is being organized under the overall guidance of Dr. A.S. Bali, chief scientists and head water management.
