Relief, tension as college's release 1st cut off list | | | Mishu Gupta Early Times Report Jammu, June 30: With the first cut-off list of the candidates selected for admission in different streams in BA/B Sc/B Com Part-I for the session 2010-11, was released today by all the Government Degree Colleges in Jammu City. Students who have made it to the first list started to line up outside various colleges to complete the admission formalities. Excited students were seen thronging the corridors of the colleges, as they gathered there to check out the first cut-off list. Some students looked excited and happily talked about their prospects, while some showed tense faces and restrained themselves from talking much. Shivani Sharma, an aspirant who had come to GCW Parade College with her friends, said, "The cut-offs of most of the streams and subjects as compared to previous years have gone down this year, which is quite surprising. I could not make it to the first list, but expect better luck with the second one. I want to study B Com. At GGM Science College, students were seen discussing the cut-off marks and their prospects. Sunil Singh, an applicant, said, "The first cut-offs are not very encouraging. They are a mix bag with some subjects registering higher percentage while some registering marginal decline." Sunil's friend Rohit added, "Going by the first cut off list, the cut-offs should come down by another few notches in the second and third list." The highest merit was registered in Computer Applications subject at GGM Science College with 82. 2 percent cut off. Biotechnology had been the other subject at Govern-ment College for Women in which the cut off merit for admission was above 80 percent. At SPMR College of Commerce, the cut of percentage witnessed a rise of 12 percent from last year as this time around the figure remained at 54 percent. At Government Maulana Azad Memorial Post Graduate College, the cut off percentage of Arts stream recorded at 43.87 percent where as in the Science stream, the cut off percentage stood at 45.07. At GGM Science College, Medical subjects apparently evoked little response from the admission seekers as cut off in the stream was registered 45 percent while Geogra-phy and Functional English with allied subjects registered 78.67 and 66.3 percent cut off respectively, Cut off in the combinations of Physics, Chemi-stry, Maths (PCM); Phys-ics, Electronics, Maths; Geology and Electronics, was 60.4, 75.4 and 61.2 respectively. Cut off in Arts steam at Government College for Women (GCW) Parade was surprisingly lower than 50 percent as compared to the last year's figure of 52.8 percent while the highest merit was registered in newly introduced subject of Electronics which registered cut off of 73.73. Commerce stream registered cut off of 60 percent. In Medical and Non-Medical subjects, cut off was registered at 58.26 and 61.02 respectively. The cut off percentage in Medical stream witnessed a decline of around more than 2 percent however the cut off in Non-Medical stream registered a growth of about 9 percent. At GCW Gandhi Nagar, cut off in Medical 60 percent while the subjects such as Non-Medical, Arts and Biotechnology registered 58, 50 and 81.5 percent cut off respectively. Admission of the selected candidates started on the spot. The second cut off list will be released on July 4. |
