Anantnag assaults-Jammu preparing for a 'backlash'? | Sangarsh Samiti convenes meeting today, BJP too in protest mode | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 30: In the backdrop of some untoward incidents indulged in by rioters in Anantnag in Kashmir valley on Tuesday, is Jammu going to maintain its cool or preparing itself for some kind of 'backlash' in the form of protests and demonstrations….? If the statement issued by the Sangarsh Samiti is to be taken seriously, anger and resentment is brewing in some quarters over what happened in Anantnag . A formal strategy to express this 'rage' will be discussed tomorrow by the affronted organizations in a meeting convened for the purpose. More than demoralizing the security forces who are under centrestage of controversies and under sever attack from political class as well as common masses, the Jammu based Hindu organizations and Sangarsh Samiti is looking at the fresh flare up in Kashmir as attempts to disrupt the Holy Amarnath Yatra. Since the protests and clashes erupted suddenly in Anantnag district on Tuesday, Sangarsh Samiti apprehensions and fears cannot be termed unfounded, given the timing and nature of the riots particularly in a district which is the entry point for Yatra from traditional route. Even for the Baltal Yatris, this is the area from where they have to enter Srinagar for undertaking Yatra from Sonmarg. In its statement today, Sangarsh Samiti convenor Brig Suchet Singh (retd) and other leaders have taken strong view of the present situation prevailing in the Kashmir valley "Not only the tourists are being attacked by the anti nationals and security forces constantly assaulted and demoralized but also a temple has been attacked and the rioters are planning to disrupt Sh.Amarnath Yatra….." the statement said. To discuss these matters , we have convened a meeting of all our constituents tomorrow, the statement added. "We have serious reservations about all these issues and future course of action would be discussed in the meeting", the statement further added. Sangarsh Samiti which spearheaded the two month long agitation over Amarnath land row in 2008, has also invited Bar Association of Jammu, Brahmin Sabha, Rajput Sabha, Harijan Sabha, Jaat Sabha, Trade and transport organisations, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Small Scale Industries, Socials and religious organisations,Various bazaar associations Students Organisations and Pro-Jammu politicals parties in the meeting convened tomorrow at Geeta Bhawan. Interestingly, the BJP has also decided to hold protest demonstrations tomorrow throughout Jammu province at district levels. However, the BJP protests will be seen as spitting venom on political lines against the NC-Congress coalition for what the party has alleged their repeated attempts to demoralize the security forces in the valley under a conspiracy to capitulate to handful of seccessionist and elements which are upto disintegration of the state. State president of the party Shamsher Singh Manhas has alleged that present trouble has been managed and manipulated by anti-national elements to also hinder and jeopardize the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra. It also represents signal failure of the NC-Congress coalition, he added. Anticipating the reaction from Jammu and Jammu based organistions, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal also convened a meeting today in which the Divisional administration invited the senior and prominent citizens of Jammu, representatives of Political parties and non political organizations that matter to discuss the scenario emerging vis-à-vis Amarnath Yatra. In this meeting the Divisional administration is believed to have sought cooperation of all those who attended in making Jammu a peaceful place and maintain calm and restraint, for smooth conduct of Yatra. In other words it has been appealed to prevail upon the Jammu masses to maintain calm and peace. The 'peace making' effort is appreciable but will it work….? The larger question to this question is whether Yatra will be allowed to be conducted without disruption in Valley, which remains to be seen in coming days.
