Saroori takes stock of yatra arrangements

UDHAMPUR, July 1:To review Amarnath Yatra arrangements from Jammu to Ramban, the Minister for Roads and Bridges, Mr. G.M. Saroori visited various destinations en route Jammu to Ramban and also inspected development works under R&B at various locations in district Udhampur, today.
The Minister also took stock of facilities being provided to the yatries, including accommodation, transport, drinking water, sanitation, electricity, health care, communication .
Interacting with the yatries, the Minister said the government was making all out efforts to provide basic facilities to Shri Amarnath yatries for their comfortable pilgrimage.
During his tour, the Minister accompanied by MLA, Chenani, Mr. Krishan Chand Bhagat also took stock of various development works under execution in Chenani constituency and listened to the demands and problems of the people.
On the occasion, MLA Chenani demanded that an inspection hut be constructed in Chenani town for which he assured the Minister that required land would be made available for the purpose.
Responding to the demand for construction of Inspection Hut at Chenani, Mr. Saroori announced to provide Rs. 10 lakh with instructions to the concerned officers for starting construction work and ensure its completion in a stipulated time frame. The Minister also announced allocation of Rs. 2.33 crore for upgradation of bridge at Batana. Other demands put forth by the people of Chenani included construction of Circular road via Old Tehsil office, shifting of bus stand, construction of four additional class rooms in HSS, Chenani and Hostel for students at Chenani. Later, the Minister also visited Kud and convened a meeting with officers of PWD and PMGSY and reviewed the progress of ongoing road projects under PMGSY and State Plan. He directed the engineers to complete the road projects at an accelerated speed with no compromise on the quality of works so that the people of this hilly belt could ameliorate their lot after getting road connectivity. He also called for preparing Detailed Project Reports of new road projects so that funds could be raised for such projects. The Superintending Engineer, PWD, Mr. D. D. Gorkha apprised the Minister that 76.35 km roads in district Udhampur have been upgraded at pre-mixing level ending first quarter of the current financial year under NABARD, District and State Plan. Under PMGSY, the works on 39 road projects at a cost of Rs.138 crore was going on smoothly and Rs.42.99 Crore have been spent so far on these projects. The Minister also directed the PMGSY authorities to send DPRs of 42 newly identified road projects to provide road connectivity to the villages having 250 souls.
