EC members assure troops in Uri sector to help in voting | | | NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has offered to simplify voting process for troops deployed in far off areas from their homes or the place of the registration of their votes. This assurance to the members of the armed forces came when Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla along with Election Commissioners, SY Quraishi and VS Sampath, today visited the forward areas in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir to meet the troops deployed along the LOC -- Line of Control. According a statement issued by the commission here this evening, its three members interacted with the officers and troops in the Uri Sector to acquire a first hand appreciation of the problems faced by the soldiers in taking an active part in the electoral process. The commission members were accompanied by BR Sharma, Chief Electoral Officer, J&K and senior officers of the Army. The officers and men of the armed forces shared with the commission, the difficulties faced by them in exercising their right to vote. The CEC and the two ECs discussed with them the issues relating to postal ballot, proxy voting and the issuance of Electors Photo Identity Cards etc. The three-member commission assured the officers and Jawans that they would consider and implement various measures to simplify the voting process for service voters in order to ensure their due participation in the electoral process.
