Jammu to observe bandh tomorrow
7/1/2010 11:27:31 PM
JAMMU: In the backdrop of tense situation in Kashmir Valley, Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS), which had spearheaded two months agitation on Amarnath land row in 2008, has called for a day-long Jammu bandh on July 3 to lodge its resentment against the attack on temple, pilgrims, women and security personnel by separatists sponsored miscreants in Valley.
The SAYSS, which convened a meeting of all its constituents at Geeta Bhawan here this evening, unanimously decided to call for a day-long bandh on July 3 (Saturday) to lodge its resentment against the attack on women, pilgrims and security personnel, besides an deliberate attempt of separatist groups to disrupt annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
"All the constituents of Samiti have unanimously called for a day-long bandh on July 3 to express their anguish on four different issues viz attack on temple in Anantnag, attack on Army, CRPF and Police, attack on pilgrims, women and drivers, besides making a fervent appeal to the administration for smooth conduct of pilgrimage," Brigadier (retired) Suchet Singh told Early Times.
The Samiti also expressed its resentment against attack on a Jammu based media person at Anantnag in which his vehicle was totally damaged.
"We feel that it is a planning to disrupt Amarnath Yatra by separatists in the valley. We would not tolerate any hindrance to annual pilgrimage of Amarnath and any such attempt would have serious repercussion onus of which would lies on the government," he warned.
The representatives of Brahmin Sabha, Rajput Sabha, Harijan Sabha, Jaat Sabha, Trade and transport organisations, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Small Scale Industries, Socials and religious organisations, various bazaar associations, students organisations and Jammu based political parties attended the meeting and extended their support to the bandh call.
The Samiti has also demanded that Army should be deployed in Kashmir Valley to control the situation.
Meanwhile, Jammu Province Peoples' Forum (JPPF) took stock of the situation arising because of recent development n Kashmir valley and the Jammu Bandh call given by Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti for July 3 late this evening.
The Forum felt that the Jammu bandh call, which has been given, is a premature and instead of controlling the situation, it is likely to vitiate the atmosphere.
The forum with the consent of all the organizations constituting it including Bar Association, Jammu, Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha, Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Retailers & Traders Federation, Transport Associations, Brahamin Sabha, Mahasha Sudhar Sabha, Jain Sabha and Aggarwal Sabha has decided to hold a meeting to disuses the issue tomorrow at 2.00 pm at Rajput Sabha, Jammu and till the time a decision is taken in this regard, it has decided not to support any call for Jammu bandh.
