Moves afoot to disrupt Amarnath Yatra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 1: The Kashmir Valley is again in turmoil. It is the handiwork of Pakistan and its over-ground paid agents like Geelani and Mirwaiz. They have put the Kashmir Valley on fire with a motive and their motive is to disrupt the Amarnath Yatra. The situation has climaxed to the point that even the state government, which till the other day was very soft towards the separatists, had to impose curfew in a number of major towns across the Valley. What has been happening in the Valley since the past seven days is not a mere co-incidence. It is the immediate consequence of the diligently crafted strategy aimed at vitiating and disrupting the annual Amarnath Yatra and establishing that the intolerant forces will not allow anything to flower in Kashmir except the radical and exclusivist Islam. That the fanatics in Kashmir would not allow the Amarnath Yatra to become a smooth affair had become amply clear on the day Geelani administered a threat that the failure of the state government and the Raj Bhawan, which have already vitiated to the extent possible the Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine by imposing what the people call the various types of “Jazia” on the devotees of Lord Shiva, to reduce the Yatra period to fifteen days would force him and his followers to launch an agitation in the Kashmir Valley. The current spurt in the violent activities in the Valley has to be viewed in this context. It is Geelani and the likes of the Mirwaiz who have, in collaboration with their masters in Islamabad, motivated the Kashmiri youth to create a serious law and order problem in the Valley so that those anxious to pay obeisance at the Holy Cave Shrine are discouraged from undertaking the Yatra. A section of the leading Delhi-based electronic channels has sought to mislead the Indian, nay the world, opinion by asserting that Kashmir is the epitome of “secularism” and “all-inclusive Sufi culture” and that what has been happening in Kashmir has nothing to do with the decision of the concerned authorities on the duration of the Yatra. In fact, it is this section of the electronic media that has all along misled the public opinion by distorting or suppressing facts, including the fact that Kashmir which was hundred per cent Hindu some 800 years ago has today become hundred per cent Muslim and that the authorities in the state have changed the names of thousands of villages in Kashmir in order to make it loud and clear that Kashmir has no place in its scheme of things for anything non-Muslim and un-Islamic. This questionable section of the electronic media has been doing its best to persuade the Indian public opinion to believe that there is no link between the ongoing violent activities in Kashmir and the Shri Amarnath Yatra. The most disturbing aspect of the whole situation has been the misinformation campaign this section of the media has unleashed to convey an impression that the Amarnath Yatra is just a century-old phenomena and that the “Kashmiri secularism” and the “Kashmir’s Sufi culture” have always welcomed the Shri Amarnath Yatra. It’s all misrepresentation of the facts. The fact is that the Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine started in ancient times. There is ample historical evidence available in this regard. But the perverted and motivated or the ill-informed section of print and electronic media has nothing to do with the historical facts. It simply wants the public opinion to believe that it was a Muslim shepherd who discovered the Holy Cave Shrine only a hundred years ago. Any way, if the extremists in Kashmir feel that they would be able to disrupt the Holy Amarnath Yatra by creating a law and order problem in the Valley, then obviously they are living in a world of the past and in a fool’s paradise. The devotees of Lord Shiva are not cowards. They cannot be cowed down. They have defeated their nasty game plan in 2008 and 2009. They would defeat them again this year. No power on earth can stop the devotees of Lod Shiva from undertaking the ancient Yatra. Nearly 1000 yatris have already left Jammu for Kashmir raising such slogans as “Bam Bam Bhole” “Baba Amarnath Ki Jai” and Barfani Baba Ki Jai.” The Kashmiri extremists and bigots would do well to remember that they have to reckon with the devotees of Lord Shiva. Any failure on their part to appreciate this fact would simply mean the rise of a situation that would show them their rightful place. |
