Jammu too feel heat of Kashmir violence | | | early times report Jammu,July 8: As the Kashmir simmers, Jammu too is witnessing fall in tourist rush. The otherwise busy BC Road and lower Gummat market these days wore a deserted look in the morning as not many passengers are boarding private taxis or hiring private vehicles to reach Srinagar and other destinations in the Kashmir valley. Earlier, these areas witnessed heavy rush of visitors along with tourists visiting Kashmir valley. On any given day, more than 200 vehicles were plying daily between the two cities from these centres only but transporters are cursing their fate as the arrival of visitors have dried up. On going volatile situation in the valley had an adverse impact on the tourism industry in the state and most of the advance bookings have been canceled by the visitors from outside the state. Even the students who were scheduled to visit the Kashmir valley to attend their counselling have urged the state government to shift the venue of counselling for admission in state medical and engineering colleges to Jammu as well to avoid inconvenience to majority of students. Even the local people who visited Kashmir in connection with their work have stopped visiting. The businessman are complaining that payments have dried up from the valley and fresh orders have stopped coming as business establishments remain shut in most parts of the valley.
