JPPF opposes Prof Mattoo's appointment as VC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 8: Jammu Province People's Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of more than 50 social and commercial organizations, held a meeting the other day to discuss the issues of establishment of Central University (CU) and appointment of Vice Chancellor. The meeting was convened under the presidentship of Kr Narayan Singh Jamwal (President, Rajput Sabha) along with Sunil Sethi (President, Bar Association Jammu), Agni Shekhar (President, Panun Kashmir) Uday Chand (President, Duggar Pradesh Party) Paviter Singh(Retd Judge), Prof Virender Gupta and M S Katoch (Dastak). In the meeting, the members expressed resentment about the nomination of Prof Amitabh Mattoo as Vice Chancellor of CU by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry. In a press statement issued here today, the members said that despite representations, petitions and letters submitted to the President of India, Prime Minister and HRD Minister, regarding appointment of local Vice Chancellor for CU, Jammu, it is regretted that the voice of the people of Jammu province has been ignored and a decision is stressed for Prof Mattoo's nomination and this crucial decision has been taken at the time when the state is already on fire. Expressing disappointment, all the members said that the sentiments of JPPF have badly hurt with the central government's decision adding that they are planning to workout some alternative strategy to stop Mattoo's appointment as Vice Chancellor. Member also said that this act of government if approved by the President of India will definitely aggravate the situation in Jammu Province also. Therefore it is advised and prayed to Prime Minister, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Minister for HRD Kapil Sibbal to reconsider the decision for the welfare of Jammu province and smooth functioning of Central University. Cautioning the central government, the members said that we warn that in case the decision regarding Mattoo's appointment is not reconsidered the repercussions will be beyond imagination and for that only the government shall be held responsible for fallouts and consequences. Valley is already burning and Jammu Province will be set for turmoil by strong agitations to achieve the end. In the meeting, the issue of alleged burning of tyres in front of a mosque was also discussed. JPPF members described the incident as an attempt by some undesired elements to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu, which they condemned strongly. They lauded the timely action by administration and police which helped in defusing the tense situation. The members requested the administration to keep a watch on such elements who want to disturb the peace and brotherhood of Jammu people.
