First English intimate restaurant theatre held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 8: Pioneering into a new theatrical idiom, a concept devised by Vikram Sharma for an intimate performance in a running restaurant gathered thundering response by the people present on the occasion. A 25 minutes play 'Marnoprant' of Hindi origin written by Surender Varma translated, adapted and directed by a young emerging local theatrist Vikas Sharma as 'The Conflict' in English was produced by Odeon Odyssey, a society for promotion of art and culture in collaboration with 'Chanakya' restaurant where it was performed among the customers as the audience. The theme of intimate performance among the restaurant customers, earlier being alien to the people of Jammu and Kashmir became the talk of town overnight as the show held around 8.30.p.m. in the evening generated a wide excitement throughout the city for being a novel concept undertaken by Vikram Sharma and executed to clinical precision gathering thundering appreciation. The two best actors of the state, Vikram Sharma and Himanshu Darshan locked horns over 'The Conflict'- a move initiated by the performing artists to undertake a performance that originated from the matrix of the environs of a restaurant and resulted into the clash of titans over a sensitive issue of infidelity. The core subject of the play hinged on a subject of infidelity done by a dead wife of a husband who calls for a heavily charged rendezvous with her beloved in a restaurant to return the belongings found after her death. The half-an-hour debate highly intense and charged in the beginning slowly comes to a cordial talk between the two performing actors who finally move their own ways leaving the subject open for more debates for the analysts and critics. "Vikram Sharma already a name synonym now with novel experiments in the theatrics in Jammu and Kashmir who also pioneered in enacting English play in the State Festival and clinched the Best actor award is himself an institution who can mould any dramatic phrase into a successful venture," said Dr Jitender Singh a renowned diabetlogist and an active expert political analyst of the state. Also Himanshu Darshan, a renowned and only impregnable performer of the state who enacted as the lover of the deceased proved beyond an iota of doubt that the actor is an amalgam of ingredients of a perfectionist. "This was something really out-of-box concept by the young director Vikas which was very effortlessly enacted by Himanshu and Vikram. Jammu has ushered into a novel mood in theatre, the credit goes to Vikram and his team," said Dr Lalti Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu. The play was held under the new dramaturgy envisaged as "Theatre of Convenience' by Vikram Sharma and has already gained a strong foothold in the theatrical panorama of the state.
