Mountaineering Association of J&K to scale Matho Kangri | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 8 : Mountaineering Association of J&K shall unfurl the National Flag atop Matho Kangri (20439 ft) in Ladakh on August 15, the Independence Day. It was decided in a special meeting of the Association held under the chairmanship of Yogeshwar Kumar, a veteran mountaineer and Vice President of the Association. The team to be led by Sumit Khajuria, a highly trained and experienced mountaineer of our state, comprises 15 mountaineers including 5 girls. The 25-day prestigious expedition shall commence from on July 27, and conclude on August 20, 2010. Situated towards the south bank of River Indus near Leh, the 20439 ft high Matho Kangri also called Yan Kangri is a formidable peak which was first climbed in 1985 by a Japanese team. However, an Indian team also climbed it in 1989. |
