Teachers hold dharna on Jammu-Poonch NHW | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, July 8: At least 127 teachers enrolled for training programme under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Bhata Duniya area of Mendhar today held protest demonstration on Jammu-Poonch Highway and disrupted traffic for around four hours. They were protesting against shifting of their training venue. As per the reports, 127 teachers who are getting teaching training at Bhata Duniya School under SSA scheme blocked National Highway and protested against the department's decision of shifting their training venue from the area to Dargloon village. They shouted slogans against Principal District Institute of Education Poonch Ashraf Chouhan who is also incharge of SSA in the district. The protesting teachers were demanding no disturbance during training period. Due to the blockade of national highway, the traffic remained disrupted for about 4 hours which resulted in a heavy traffic jam on road. Meanwhile, Station House Officer of Police Station Gursai came into action and rushed to the spot. However, the protesting teachers were pacified after intervention of Principal DIET who reached the spot and announced cancellation of the programme of shifting their training venue to Dargloon School. Following the announcement, teachers lifted their dharna. When contacted, Ashraf Chouhan, Principal DIET said that they had planned to shift these teachers to Dargloon because there was sufficient teaching staff to train them. |
