Expedite sewerage works with simultaneous restoration of roads: Dy CM

JAMMU, July 8: Stressing on further accelerating the pace of sewerage projects in Jammu city, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today said that the execution of these works would be expedited with simultaneous restoration of the roads to avoid inconvenience to the public.
Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a high powered meeting convened to review the status of sewerage projects being executed under NBCC, ERA and UEED besides taking stock of availability of essential commodities especially in the far off areas. The meeting also assessed the functioning of various departments and their preparation for meeting any eventuality during the ensuing rainy season.
The sewerage lines in the old city are being laid by NBCC under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNRUM), while in other parts the work is being done by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) in coordination with PHE, UEED and R&B departments.
Deputy Chief Minister asked the executing agencies to take steps for expediting the work, while assuring full coordination from departments in identifying the existing sewerage and PHE lines.
Emphasizing the need for enhanced synchronization among all the concerned departments for better results, the Deputy Chief Minister asked the officers to ensure that no development work should suffer mere for lack of coordination on their part.
For ensuring adequate supply of ration, the deputy chief minister called for regular checking of depots and stocking of sufficient food grains across the region. He also asked the authorities to prioritize adequate and timely supply of ration to areas which are facing long dry spells for last many years.
Tara Chand also directed for eviction of encroachments along road sides, checking of idle parking and identification of stops for matadors for ensuring smooth flow of traffic.
Deputy Chief Minister also asked for making adequate arrangements including setting up of control rooms, availability of rescue teams and machinery, medicare and identification of places for shelter in flood prone areas. Reviewing the facilities being extended to Amarnath yatries, Deputy Chief Minister enquired all the departments about their performance in this regard. He asked them to deliver better services to the pilgrims so that they could leave the state with words of praise.
Later, Deputy Chief Minister had a detailed meeting with the concerned regarding law and order situation.
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla, legislators, Ashok Khajuria, Yashpal Kundal and Bharat Bhushan, besides Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal, Chief Engineers of PHE, R&B, Flood Control, Head of various departments, SSP Traffic, SSP Jammu, JDA Vice Chairman and other senior officers attended the meeting.
