Rather hails performance of Commercial Taxes Deptt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 9: Minister for Finance and Planning, Abdul Rahim Rather reviewed achievement in revenue realization in Commercial Taxes Department at a high level meeting convened here today. Speaking on the occasion, Rather urged upon the officers to attain optimum revenue realization by proper management of all aspects of taxation besides plugging the loopholes if any Deliberate discussion were held on number of dealers registered, Returns pertains to IIIRD Quarter, assessment under VAT, Extra demand under GST, Position of Assessment under GST, detail about Tax Audit, Refund claimed and many other issues in the meeting. The Minister took a detailed review of the performance and working of the various circles. Giving resume of achievements of the department for the financial year 2009-10, the Commissioner Commercial Taxes Khawaja Bashir Ahmed informed the chair that the department has achieved total revenue of Rs.2231.24 crore registering a growth rate of 22.30 percent in case of GST/VAT which is much above the national average of 11 percent. Additional Commissioner, Commercial Taxes (Adm.) Jammu, Vaneeta Gupta presented the achievements of Jammu Division for the year 2009-10. She informed the Minister that revenue achievements for the Jammu Division excluding stamps were of the order of Rs.1575.62 crore for the year 2009-10 achieving a growth rate of 23 percent. After taking the brief from the Commissioner, Commercial Taxes and Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes, the Finance Minister conducted the detailed review of the functioning of various wings and circles of the department with the Deputy Commissioner and Commercial Taxes Officers. While discussing the functioning of the Checkposts, the Minister stressed upon a transparent and hassle-free services to the dealers. He observed that the nature of seizures and the average amount of penalty recovered suggests need for improvement in this area so that scope of harassment to the traders is minimized. Minister while reviewing the functioning of each Commercial Tax Circle, gave specific instructions to the Commercial Tax Officers for making the system more trader-friendly so far as honest dealers are concerned. He instructed that the incidence of tax evasion should be dealt strictly and firmly. He also emphasized the need of frequent inspections and efficient conduct of Tax-Audit and Audit Assessments. He assured full support to all the functionaries of the Department in the issues pertaining to administration and taxation. Concluding the marathon review, the Minister exhorted the officers to work with greater zeal, dedication and devotion. Commissioner/Secretary Finance, Sudhanshu Pandey also hailed the efforts of the Commercial Taxes Department for surpassing the targets.
