When a prospective bride reddened her palms with blood | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 9: Only yesterday a marriage broker had come with a suitable proposal for her. The 25-year-old Fancy went to bed early on July 5. A sweet dream offered her solace. She saw beautiful Hina designs on her palms. Next morning she narrated her dream to her mother and got a kiss on her forehead. A few hours later, a bullet made her redden her hands with her own blood. While people were taking her coffin to her heavenly abode, an aggrieved relative recited the following verse: Meray jigar kay laho main doobi hain; who unglian jo hina kay liyay makhsoos thi (I wanted to apply hina on my palms but had to redden them with my blood). It was a pleasant morning. Every body seemed in a hurry. Fancy wanted to clean the house immediately. She too had to go to the market to make some purchases. But by the time she set things right, it was too late. A youth got killed in Tengpora and violent protests ensued. Firdousabad, where Fancy lived with her parents saw heavy deployment of police. The youth started pelting stones and the police responded with smoke shells. Around 3 p.m the police suddenly left. Meanwhile, a few youth played revolutionary songs on a microphone in a nearby mosque. The police stormed the area. They fired hundreds of bullets and smoke shells. An eyewitness (name withheld) saw a police man aiming at a window. This was the fatal bullet that robbed Fancy of her life. A fellow police man, according to the eyewitness, slapped the killer for hurting a girl. The demonstrators had dispersed and the police also left. Meanwhile, a man announced Fancy's death from the same mosque that was used for playing revolutionary songs. The revolution had consumed yet another child. As usual thousands of people including a large number of women came out to mourn the death. Fancy's final journey was eventful as well. While her body was taken to a park where thousands of people had gathered to offer funeral prayers to her, the guards posted at the local MLA's house opened fire to disperse a mob that wanted to set the legislators house on fire. Finally, Fancy was laid to rest late in the evening when the police left the area.
