SIEF replaces polythene bags of Amarnath yatris | | | early times report KATHUA, July 10: In order to bring awareness to Amaranth pilgrims SIEF today setup polythene check out point at Lakhanapur, the gateway of Jammu n Kashmir. The SIEF activists collected polythene from the pilgrims and replaced these with eco-friendly bags. More than 100 kg polythene stuff is recovered every day from the yatris. The founder-president of the organization, Monu Sunil appealed to the public not to use polythene bags. Several office bearers of the organization were present on the occasion. Included among them were Shashi Sharma, general secretary, Suresh Kumar vice president, Verinder Khajuria secretary, and Rajan Dewan state president of the SIEF. They told media persons that their movement was to make J&K state polythene free, and protect the ecology of the state. The event was inaugurated by Sanjeev Verma, DC Kathua on July 1, at Lakhanapur. All Amarnath pilgrims would be given alternative eco-friendly bags by way of replacement of polythene bags. They said that the exchange counter would remain functional up to the end of the pilgrimage.
