HM divisional commander escapes after encounter, associate held | | | JAMMU: A top militant and close associate of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) divisional commander Mohammad Amin alias Jehangir was today held by troops in Chicha Padyama forests of Kishtwar, following a brief gunbattle with them. He was identified as Mohammad Yousaf alias Khalil, son of Mohammad Shafi Khatana, of Bhella Chicha. He was taken into custody while trying to make good his escape, police sources said. Sources said Amin, who too was present at the encounter site, managed to flee unhurt. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Amin, Khalil and other HM cadres in Chicha Padyama forests, jawans of police, 17 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 74 Bn of CRPF launched a "seek and destroy" operation in the woods in the wee hours of today morning. Sources said while the jawans were combing the woods, militants fired at them. Fire was returned. After a brief exchange of fire, Amin and his associates fled the spot. Khalil was, however, apprehended by the troops while he too was trying to escape, the sources added, saying one grenade, 25 AK rounds and one pouch were recovered from him. He was immediately whisked away to a nearby police station where his sustained interrogation was in progress. Sources said Khalil, who had joint HM outfit in September 2009, was active in Chichha, Pyas, Kidroo, Nawnatoo and higher reaches of Bhella Chichha. Terming his arrest as a great success, sources said he was the right-hand man of the HM divisional commander Amin.
