Unauthorised stamp vendor held with fake notary stamp | | | JAMMU: A stamp vendor, who did not have the requisite licence, was arrested by police from outside the regional transport office here today along with a fake notary stamp. He was identified as Raghubir Singh, son of Avtar Singh, of Digiana. Police sources said the Nehru Market police post received a report that Raghubir had been selling affidavits and stamp papers at exorbitant rates. Soon thereafter, cops, led by police post incharge, Sub-Inspector Hilal Azhar, reached the spot and took him into custody, the sources added.Over 500 affidavits, some documents related to RTO and a fake notory stamp were seized from him.During his questioning, police came to know that he did not have the requisite licence to sell stamp papers.The affidavits and stamp papers, which police recovered from Raghubir, had been purchased by him from stamp vendor Amit Sharma, who sold these items at the Jammu tehsil office, sources said.Amit, however, was a licence holder, the sources added, saying police were searching for him too.Raghubir also told his interrogators that he had sold an affidavit to a Jammu University student for Rs 100. The actual cost of the affidavit was, however, Rs 10.A case under the relevant sections of law was registered against him.
