After PDP, Panthers to skip All Party meeting | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 10: The All Party Meeting (APM), called by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on July 12 to discuss the prevailing Kashmir situation, suffered yet another set back when the National Panthers Party (NPP) also decided to stay away. The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has already announced to skip the meeting. However, there was some relief for the ruling party as the Communist Party of India (M) and PDF led by former minister and MLA Khansahib Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen have decided to attend the APM and raise the issues confronting the common people under prevailing situation, particularly due to curfew and other restrictions. Even as the supremo of JKNPP Prof Bhim Singh and other veterans Harsh Dev Singh have not come out with reaosns as to why the party has decided to keep away from the All Party meeting convened by the CHief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Provincial president of the NPP Farooq Ahmad Dar in a press release this afternoon said that it has been decided to not to attend the meeting. ''The NPP has decided to reject the notice of the Law and parliamentary minister directing attendance of the NPP in the office of Chief minister's office,'' he said. He said the people of the Kashmir do not want Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister any longer. The PDP has already announced to skip the meeting, which according to them, serves no purpose now when about 15 people were killed in the security forces action during the past one moth. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said that now there is nothing to be discussed after deployment of Army in the valley. ''I wrote a letter to Abdullah requesting him to summon a special one-day session of the Legislative Assembly after three persons were killed by the Army in a fake encounter at Machil and some more innocent killings in the valley, Ms Mufti added. But, ''the CM rejected our suggestion for the session,'' she added. ''Instead of rejecting our suggestion, he could have called the All Party Meeting on that time,'' she said, adding that ''if that would have been happened we would have saved the teenagers who were killed in the security forces firing recently. She questioned ''what we have to discuss in the meeting when Omar Abdullah has taken all decisions, including deployment of Army.'' Mehbooba Mufti said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had already chaired an All Party Meeting in New Delhi on this issue. Dr Singh recently held a high-level meeting at Delhi in which Amarnath security was discussed, she said, adding people of Kashmir provides help, assistance and security to pilgrims. ''We will continue to provide all help to yatris,'' she announced. Without asking Chief Minister to resign, she said, ''we left it to Abdullah's conscious.'' She said as a Home Minister Abdullah deployed Army and imposed curfew in the city. However, the State secretary of the Communist Party of India (M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said he will attend the meeting though it was a delayed decision taken by the government. He said staying away from the meeting will not serve any purpose and only through discussion ''we can raise the questions of peoples' sufferings, curbs on media and allowing anti Kashmiri propaganda on some channels. ''We will also seek reply from the government what action it had taken against the state police personnel responsible for violating Human Rights (HR) violations, including killing of small boys and later labelling them as stone throwers,'' he added.ources also said that PDF President Hakim Mohammad Yaseen has decided to attend the All Party meeting on Monday. However, he may not attend the meeting of coalition partners convened tomorrow by the Chief Minister on similar lines. PDf, it is pertinent to mention has been extending support to present coalition as ally.
