early times report
Jammu, July 10 : The lull pierced on borders due to intermittent firing from across the border by Pakistani troops along different sectors has sent worrying signals to those living in villages adjacent to the border . But the farmers who work in fields close to border and are busy sowing seasonal crops have become most worried lot apparently for fear of losing their lives in the fire from other side. The fears and anxiety of farmers have been compounded due to recent incidents on IB at Pargwal sector which claimed the lives of two farmers.
The sources in BSF have said that following the death of two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Pakistani firing along the international border in Pargwal sector, the farmers along the border have been advised to 'stay away' from the fields, for some time. They have also been asked to keep vigil and remain cautious while working in the fields, in case they cannot afford to stay away from them completely. BSF sources informed that this word of caution has been given to avoid any such fatal incident in future . "The farmers are busy sowing paddy crop in the fields along bordering villages…….they cannot afford to stay away as it is question of survival and livelihood for many families", said a villager. "But the recent incidents of firing from Pak troops have have made them a scared lot which is why many of them have agreed to pay heed to the advise of BSF officials to 'stay away' from farms, if possible.
However, officially there are no restrictions imposed on farmers working in fields along border. "It is only a word of caution and advise……this is only to ascertain their safety ", said Rajkumar, a villager in RS Pura .
The farmers of bordering Pargwal sector, R S Pura, Jourian, Kanhachak, Khour and Pallanwala belts expressing concern over cross-border firing since most of them are dependent upon the yields from farming. " It is indeed worrying factor for us ….if the incidents of firing would not stop, it would become difficult for us to sow seeds in time and cultivate land", said another villager Des Ram.
