Two top militants killed in Kishtwar, | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 11: In separate gunbattles with them, two top militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed by security forces in the thickly-forested mountains of Kishtwar and Rajouri districts today. Following intelligence inputs about the presence of LeT militants in Sarwan forests of Kishtwar, jawans of police, 11 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 74 Bn of CRPF laid a cordon around the area late Saturday night and laid multiple ambushes, police sources said.When the jawans started combing the woods in the morning, they spotted a militant hideout which was immediately encircled, the sources added. There were some militants in the hideout. Sources said when the forces asked them to surrender, they opened fire, which was returned.In the ensuing exchange of fire that lasted over an hour, the jawans shot dead one militant. His identity was established on the basis of a pocket diary recovered from him as Imitiaz alias Hafeeza of Kothi Bhatti, Doda. He belonged to LeT. Two Chinese grenades, one pouch and a sleeping bag were recovered from him. It was suspected that his weapon was taken away by another militant who had fled the hideout during the exchange of fire.Sources said a massive search was on in the area till late this evening. The gunfight in Rajouri took place in Dalyote forests of Kalakote in the wee hours of today morning.Giving details, sources said acting on a tip-off, police and army jawans laid ambushes Saturday night in Dalyote forests where militants were suspected to be hiding. One of the ambush parties picked up the movement of a militant at about 5.30 am after he came out of his hideout. When challenged, he opened fire. In retaliatory fire, troops shot him dead, the sources added. His identity was yet to be established. Sources said he belonged to HM and was suspected to be a Pakistani. One AK rifle, its four magazines, 248 rounds, one radio set and a Nokia mobile phone were recovered from him.His hideout was also searched by the jawans later. From there, one map, a matix sheet, a Colgate tooth paste, a tooth brush and several items of daily use were recovered. It was later destroyed. As there was apprehension of the presence of more militants in the area, troops were continuing with their searches till late tonight, the sources added.
