JKNPP tells Omar to quit
7/12/2010 1:19:55 AM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 11: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), which has decided to stay away from an all-party meeting convened to discuss the recent turmoil in the valley, today asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to resign and pave the way for Governor's rule in the state.
"You have been caught in a situation that needs to be resolved urgently so that tension in the valley is reduced and people may inhale free air minus curfews and closures," party chairman Bhim Singh said.
In a letter to Omar in response to his communication and telephone call requesting him to reconsider his decision not to attend tomorrow's meeting, the JKNPP chief asked the Chief Minister to pick up courage and remain without power for some time.
"Let the Governor take care of the administration for a few months. That will generate desirable atmosphere for right thinking people to come together to do a comprehensive analysis of the situation and jointly lay a road-map for a better tomorrow for our people as you have desired."
During the short spell of Governor's rule, "the Chief Minister will get a lot of time to work out new permutations and combination and gain the confidence of the people which stands shaken this day", Singh said.
"Your decision to call the Army (to tackle the situation) was a blunder," he said in the letter, a copy of which was released to the press here.
The Chief Minister has convened an all-party meeting tomorrow to discuss the situation in the valley which remained on the boil recently.
