IBM - Rayat Bahra special recruitment drive for Himachal women | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 12: In collaboration with IBM, Rayat Bahra Group of Institutes coming up with Bahra University Shimla, today carried out a special recruitment drive for Himachali women. Anurag Thakur, MP from Hamirpur and national president of BJYM inaugurated the drive. Interacting with female technocrats present on the occasion, he assured them that the state government would not spare any effort to harness industry for providing employment opportunities to youth of the state. He thanked the IBM and Rayat Bahra Group for conducting the recruitment drive. The Chairman of Rayat Bahra Group S. Gurvinder Singh Bahra said that their institution wanted to give the best possible opportunities to the educated youth, especially women of Himachal. It was for the first time that IBM was carrying special hiring campaign for women engineering graduates from the state, he said. Elaborating the plan of the proposed university, Gurvinder Singh said that it was for the first time in the region that an institution of higher learning had established direct linkage with industry. The educational group has already entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with sixteen leading corporate houses. The basic intention of bringing industry to educational institution is that though there is a large number of engineering graduates available in market, yet there is shortage of trained manpower. The Bahra University would give 60 bigha land of the institution to corporate houses. The buildings would be provided by university while other infrastructure would be put in place by the industry. The infrastructure thus built would be termed as Centers of Excellence. After entering the university, the students would be adopted by respective industry in which they intend to specialize. For example, Maruti Suzuki can adopt a mechanical or automobile engineering student from the institution right at time he/she takes admission. The students would not be bound to join the industry that adopts them. The industries would be the first to make the offer of placement. The leading corporate houses that have already signed MoU with Rayat Bahra Education Group include IBM, Infosys, HP, Intel, Volvo, Eicher, Delhi Stock Exchange, Reliance Money, Hash Bio tech. A component of fees charged from students would go to the industry. The chairman disclosed that talks were in progress for bringing other corporate houses to the proposed university campus. About 800 female candidates appeared for the interview conducted by the IBM at Peter Hoff hotel today.
