7/12/2010 10:54:24 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 12: Monsoon rains lashed most parts of Jammu region and received the much awaited rainfall in the morning hours; bringing some relief to the people from the scorching sun and humidity, besides cheer on the faces of the farmers of the region.
The incessant rains continued for more than an hour at various parts of the city.
People in winter capital of the state were keenly waiting for the monsoon rains as the humid conditions has made the situation unbearable for the common man.
"With today's heavy downpour we hope that monsoon this time would be normal which in turn would also provide much needed relief to the farmers, who faced a long dry spell", said Ruby Mahajan.
According to the weatherman this rainfall will be helpful to the farmers of the state as the wheat harvesting time is almost over, while cultivators are preparing their fields for Kharif crops and the rains at this time is considered necessary. The weather man further said that Monsoon rains will be continued for next 24 hours at many places.
Pertinently early in the morning entire sky was covered with the dark monsoon clouds and down pour of the heavy rains started after that bringing temperature down by almost 6 to 8 degrees Celsius. Yesterday's maximum temperature was 36 degree Celsius with relative humidity of 88 percent.
But today's deluge again brings to the fore the negligent attitude of the Jammu Municipality (JMC) as water was found logged in many areas of the city.
