BJP again stands exposed, spoke the NC language | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jul 12: BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas, BJP MLA from Jammu East Assembly constituency Ashok Khajuria and BJP MLA from Nagrota Assembly constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma, who represented their party in the today’s all-party meeting at Srinagar, convened by the Chief Minister, spoke the language of the ruling party and endorsed without any reservation whatsoever the six-point resolution which, among other things, urged the Prime Minister to pursue the peace process with Pakistan to its logical conclusion and address the “internal and external” dimensions of the issue. Don’t say that those from the BJP who took part in the all-party meeting, which was boycotted by the PDP and the JKNPP, do not understand the English language or are not aware the issues inflicting Jammu and Kashmir. They may not understand the English language and they may not be reading the newspapers at all, but it would be too much to say that they do not know what the ruling party believes in and advocates. They are fully aware of the ruling party’s ideology, as also its stand on Jammu and Kashmir. Everyone knows that those who represented the BJP in the all-party meeting have soft corner for the ruling party and that they represent a party which, like all other pseudo secular parties, are more than willing to give respectability to the politics of separatism and communalism in Kashmir and sacrifice the people of Jammu and national interests for petty personal gains and vote-bank politics. Hence, the unflinching support of the BJP state president and the party’s two MLAs to the resolution adopted at the all-party conference should not surprise anyone. They were expected to dance to the tune of the ruling party and they exactly that outraging the national sentiment in general and sentiments of the people of Jammu province in particular. In fact, they had gone to the summer capital only to express solidarity with those who bleed India everyday with a thousand cut and seek a political system outside the constitutional organization of India. After all, they are the followers of Atal Behari Vajpayee and L K Advani, who have tried their level best to compromise the Indian position in Jammu and Kashmir, but couldn’t do so because of certain unexpected developments that took place in the country and in Pakistan in and after 1999, including the Pakistani intrusion in Kargil and the right decision of the awakened Indian electorate to inflict a crushing and humiliating defeat on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. Hence, don’t blame the local BJP leaders for the controversial role they played in the all-party meeting, as also for their unqualified support to the resolution that virtually termed Jammu and Kashmir as a territory whose political future has yet to be determined and that requires the Prime Minister to initiate a process leading up to the accommodation of the Pakistani viewpoint as well as the accommodation of the standpoint of the Kashmiri separatists and communalists. They played the role they were required by the party high command to play. Now, it is for the country’s nationalist constituency, as also for the people of Jammu to ponder over what the BJP actually stands for. One thing is very clear: The BJP is a party that consistently hoodwinks the nationalist elements and that is prepared to sacrifice the people of Jammu and Ladakh and displaced Kashmiri Pandits in order to recapture power at the Centre. The BJP has, undoubtedly, let down the already rather concerned Indian nation, including those in the state who consider Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India and oppose the pernicious and ill-motivated concepts such as the concepts of autonomy and self-rule.
