BHADERWAH, July 13: In a bizarre development while the National Conference unit of Bhaderwah was celebrating the Martyrs Day in the premises of Dak Bungalow Bhaderwah, Anjuman-i- Islamia Bhaderwah give a call for bandh in the morning which paralysed life in the town. All business establishments observed dawn to dusk strike in protest against civilians killing in Kashmir. Members of majority community assembled in the premises of historical Jamia Masjid Bhaderwah where they raised shouted pro-freedom and anti-government slogans. They held coalition government responsible for all misdeeds in the state. Speaking on the occasion senior Anjuman- i- Islamia Bhaderwah leaders Hai Khateeb and Master Ghulam Rasool Rangrez criticized the government for failure on all fronts in controlling the security forces, which, according to them, are involved in killings in Kashmir .They urged the government to holds judicial inquiry into the killings and punish the culprits .The streets of the town today wore a deserted look.
In view of today's bandh local administration had made strict security arrangements to prevent any untoward happening. J&K Police posse on duty thwarted the attempt of Anjuman activist from taking out a procession from the mosque.
Restrictions are in place throughout Bhaderwah town as a precautionary measure to protect civilian life and property from the designs of anti-social elements," a senior police officer said. There was heavy deployment of State and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). SSP Doda, Parbhat Singh today visited Bhaderwah where he chaired a meeting of officers that included ASP Bhaderwah, T R Katoch and SDPO Bhaderwah Ch Abdul Quyoom. The meeting was to assess the situation.
Talking to this reporter, sections of people said that frequent bandhs in Bhaderwah were damaging tourism sector as many tourist who were here since many days left the station owing to a fluid situation. They added that for the first time tourist were coming to the town in such large numbers.
