1931 martyrs paved way for plural identity of J&K: CPI(M) | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 13 : Paying tributes to the Martyrs of 1931, CPI(M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today said the day should be commemorated as the struggle of the people of the state for upholding the values of democracy, social justice and brotherhood, which ultimately fructified and helped the people of Jammu and Kashmir to live with dignity, self respect and honour. In a statement here, Targami said the sacrifices made by 21 martyrs, who died after Dogra police opened fire outside the Central Jail here where trial was going on against Abdul Qadeer Khan Gazi who raised his voice against the autocratic Dogra rule, paved way for an organised political movement that inspired the people of the state to be masters of their affairs and make decisions for their welfare. This historical and remarkable incident assumes great significance and would be a source of inspiration for future generations to safeguard the democratic, secular and diverse character of the state, Tarigami added. Expressing sorrow over the sufferings of the people of the state, Tarigami appealed to political leadership and civil society irrespective of ideologies to come forward and identify common ground for the well being of the people of the state.
