KP bodies hold protest dharna, observe black day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 13: The Joint Forum of frontal Kashmiri Pandit organisations held a joint protest dharna at Jammu to observe Black Day. The protesters assembled outside the Raj Bhawan, Jammu and raised slogans against ethnic cleansing and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. Wearing black badges, holding placards and shouting slogans, the protesters assembled to register their protest against the observance of July 13 as the 'Martyrs Day' in the state and against the happenings on July 13, 1931 in Kashmir . On the occasion, A.N. Vaishnavi spoke about the horrors of 1931 and brought to light the dimensions of the first organized violence against the Kashmiri Pandits by the then Muslim Conference of Kashmir. Vaishnavi scoffed at the so called martyrs of 1931 and instead called the Kashmiri Pandits victims of the communal carnage as the real martyrs. Vaishnavi said that Kashmiri Pandits are not an orphan community and the leadership will take all the necessary measures to mitigate their sufferings and fight the policy of apartheid against it. Speaking on the occasion, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President said that the Kashmiri Pandit community has a bounden duty to put the records straight and defy the mindset aimed at the distortion of the History of Kashmir. The present plight of Kashmiri Pandits in exile has a direct link with what happened with the community for hundreds of years in Kashmir. The Joint Forum will make all the efforts to espouse the socio-political aspirations of the community in this context in all the available forums. The attitude of the state government towards Kashmiri Pandit community and other minorities of the state is reflective of the mindset of 1931 Muslim Conference mindset against the minorities. The protesters were addressed by A.N. Vaishnavi, President, ASKPC, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir, H.L.Chatta, General Secretary, ASKPC, Virender Raina, National Spokesperson-PK, D.N. In another programme, Sunil Dimple Jammu West Assembly Movement sat on dharna outside the Rajbhawan along with the Kashmiri leaders to express solidarity with the Kashmiri community and observed July 13 as black day. Addressing the demonstration dharna, Sunil Dimple criticized the PDP and Panthers Parties for their boycott stand for not attending the all party meeting. Dimple said it was high time when all political parties should play the healthy role above the party politics for the restoration of peace and normalcy and to show unity to root out militancy from the J&K state. He demanded that the Chief minister should deal sternly with the ongoing agitation of anti-national forces and impose PSA on such separatist leaders. Meanwhile, Panun Kashmir also paid homage to all those innocent Kashmiri Pandits, who were martyred on July 13, 1931 in Valley, on the banks of Chandrabhaga, near Jiya Pota Ghat in Akhnoor . Kashmiri Hindu Conference, Kashmira Vahini, Kashmiri Pandit Welfare Society-Palampur, Displaced welfare committee Muthi phase-1, Displaced welfare committee Muthi phase-2 and Displaced welfare committee Purkhoo phase-1 also joined Panun Kashmir. The programme started with the recitation of Shri Bhagwat Gita followed by "Tarpan" and tributes to KP martyrs. This day is observed globally by Kashmiri Pandits as 'Black Day'. This day marks the beginning of the first organised genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir. On the occasion, the survivors and witnesses of the 1931 massacre, narrated the horror tales of this day in village Kanikote in Budgam, Maharajganj and Vicharnag in Kashmir. Dr Agnishekhar, Convenor, Panun Kashmir said that the process of genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits began in 1931 and culminated in 1990 with the mass exodus of the entire population of community. To observe 1931 as the Martyrs Day in the State is insulting and a grave injustice to the sufferings of the Kashmiri Pandits. In 1931, the revolt against the then Maharaja of Kashmir was used as an alibi to perpetrate violence against the minorities in Kashmir. KPs traditionally termed this so called martyrs day as 'Lootus Vorus' (Celebration of Loot & Arson). Dr Khema Kaul, P.L. Badgami and Rajinder Raina, President, Kashmiri Pandit Welfare Society, Palampur also spoke about the horrors of 1931 and brought to light the dimensions of the first organised violence against the Kashmiri Pandits by the then Muslim Conference of Kashmir. |
