EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, July 13: Black-marketing of steel by Rural Development Department was today exposed when police seized a truck unloading the same on the shop of a private Cement and Saria seller at Manjakote area.
Police have lodged an FIR against the RDD official, who has been absconding from the area.
Sources said that police has ceased a truck bearing no JK02AB-3557 when government Saria meant for the construction of central sponsored works was being unloaded at a private shop in Manjakote.
As per sources, driver of the vehicle had reported at Block Development Office Manjakote yesterday but he was told by the officials to delay unloading for today. "It was deliberately planned to unload vehicle on holiday", sources said adding that as per the plan the driver was directed to unload it in the shop of one Abdul Razaq- who happens to be a private Cement and Saria seller in Manjakote. However, when the RDD officials started unloading the truck, some locals called media persons who exposed the whole scam.
Meanwhile, police reached the spot and ceased only 19 quintal of Saria leaving the remaining in the truck which was later unloaded at RDD Store in front of the police. However sources said that police after pressure from public has also ceased the remaining Saria at RDD Store.
Residents of Manjakote said that the police is working under the pressure of a minister and they are going to hush up the case. However when BJP showed strong reaction, the police also started showing heed towards the case.
Driver of the vehicle in his statement has clearly said that the Saria belongs to Block Office and he was told by the officials of the department to unload it on this shop. "There is no guilty of mine, I have to do what I was told", he said.
Incharge Station House Officer Manjakote when contacted refused to give any details about the incident saying that he cannot give any FIR number. However police sources confirmed the report and said that Police has lodged FIR No 50 of 2010 under section 409 against Abdul Rashid official of RDD department. Police however said that the culprit has not been arrested as he has absconded from the area.
