Grouse of 'Cong leaders' unwarranted, uncalled for
7/13/2010 11:10:07 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 13: Cracks and fissures in the state unit of Congress which remained dormant for some time have resurfaced again at a time when the coalition of which the party is major alliance partner is striving hard to rebuild its image and credibility dented badly in the wake of fresh trouble that erupted in Kashmir. The grouse and grumblings raised by a group against the party leadership are not only unwarranted and uncalled for but also inopportune in nature and inappropriate in terms of timing.
Factionalism within the state unit of Congress which has been fomented by some leaders who have always been at variance in complete disagreement with what PCC chief says or initiates. They have been keeping apart and away from the functions he attends and even not hesitated to speak brazenly against him, all for the reasons based on avowed loyalty towards a particular leader. The differences between the two factions have taken the shape of serious wrangling several times in recent past, forcing the high command to crack whip on maintaining discipline and stopping grpoupism unhealthy for the party image. This is why the voices of dissent have not been heard so loudly for some time.
But some leaders, roping in some more people this time in raising the so called grievance against the JKPCC leadership have called in the attention of the party high Command towards an issue which in question is ill timed and irrelevant to the big crisis Congress as the main party leading union government is facing in terms of tackling sensitive issues of a very sensitive state. There are some old time dissenters like Abdul Gani Vakil, Gulchain Singh Charak , Suman Bhagat, Janak Rak Gupta, Choudhary Aslam …etc who for reasons known have been raisng revolt and rebellion against the incumbent state party chief but interestingly the list of leaders who have expressed annoyance with him surprisingly includes those who in the first place ought not have associated themselves with the 'disgruntled' lot.
The annoyance of these leaders is ironically on a premise which doesn't match with what they have associated this grievance with -the democratic values within the Congress. True that party should respect democracy and democratic values for healthy functioning but relating it with the matter of what they alleged 'autocratic' attitude of the PCC chief is totally uncalled for. The grouse and grumbling of the group which time includes mostly 'ex dignitaries' like ex ministers Haji Nisar, Gharu Ram, Suman Bhagat , ex advisor to CM Janak Raj Gupta ex MLC P Namgyal etc etc is that PCC leadership did not call a meeting of the executive members of the party and CLP prior to the All Party meeting convened by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
What they have termed as 'height of autocracy' is that leaders like Deputy Chief Minister Tara CHand and CLP leader Choudhary Mohammad Aslam were not taken into confidence before All party meeting. One cannot surely deny the status and seniority of both the leaders but those who have raised this 'grievance' are very much aware of the fact that All Party meeting was neither convened by the PCC leadership nor was anything which should have been specific to Congress party. The party high command, Centre had already conveyed its stand and support to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on handling the crisis and the moves he initiated. Moreover the invitations for the All Party meeting were extended to all the leaders by the NC minister Ali Mohammad Sagar at the behest of Chief Minister.
So there appears to be no such thing that goes what these leaders have termed as "In complete contravention to teachings of Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi". It is however a different and to some extent a valid argument that the Party never discussed crisis surrounding ruling coalition government in which Congress is a partner due to killings across Kashmir valley.Whetehr the party failed to put forth its point of view properly during the all party meeting or not, is for the leadership to judge and decipher.
