IGNOU starts on-demand exam facility

JAMMU, July 16: Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Prof. VN Rajsekharan Pillai, has approved to consider the Regional Centre, Jammu as one of the On-Demand Examination Centres. Prof. KR Srivathsan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University inaugurated the On-Demand Examination Centre at Regional Centre Jammu in Aurobindo Block in the premises of SPMR College of Commerce, Canal Road, Jammu. IGNOU has started this innovative venture of On-Demand Examination which provides the students a completely flexible system of examination independent of the traditional fixed time frame. The student gets an opportunity to choose the exam dates and venue as per her/his choice. In the first phase, IGNOU has started the on-demand examination facility for some of the short-term courses like BPP, CTE, CIG and a few courses of BDP only. In this scheme, the students who have completed a period of minimum study hours and submitted all their assignments can now choose the date of examination as per their convenience and preparation and need not to wait for six months for Term-End Examinations.
IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu also started the tele-conferencing facility at all the Learner Centres across, Jammu by providing DTH equipment and colour television to all the Learner Centres which will prove to be beneficial for distant learners in a big way providing them an environment of a virtual interactive classroom in addition to the Counselling sessions being provided at the respective Learner Centres. However, Pro-Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, Prof. KR Srivathsan, inaugurated the Tele-conferencing facility at some of the local Learner Study Centres.
These IGNOU learner centres include some of the Centres in the University of Jammu like DOEACC Centre, DDE, Deptt. of Education and Deptt. of Library & Information Sciences, apart from the Learner Centres at MAM College and Women's College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Prof. Srivathsan and KK Bhat, Regional Director, Regional Centre Jammu interacted with the academic experts of IGNOU at Maidan Garhi Headquarters, New Delhi through tele-conferencing mode. The tele-conferencing Incharge at the Regional Centre, Jammu, Rupesh Pandita briefed the Learner Centre functionaries on-the-spot about the procedures and guidelines for effective usage of the tele-conferencing equipment. KK Bhat, Regional Director, urged the Coordinators to ensure the maximum participation of IGNOU students to avail the TC facility.
