EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, July 16: Congress party is going to shake-up its District bodies in twin border districts of Rajouri Poonch in near future with more than a dozen candidates aspiring for the post of District President.
The name of Rajinder Singh Kaka in Poonch and Mohammad Iqbal Malik in Rajouri are doing the rounds as prospective candidates to get chance of heading the party at district levels.
Various other Rajouri leaders are also vying for the post. Besides Mohammad Iqbal Malik, Congress is also scrutinizing the track record of Susheel Sharma, Kamal Bakshi, Vinod Mahajan, Kewal Koul, Sain Abdul Rashid, Thakur Puran Singh and Vinod Sharma.
Babu Singh who is heading the Rajouri district Congress at present may not get another chance.
In Poonch though Rajinder Singh Kaka former President of Congress in Poonch is strong candidate, other Congress stalwarts are also eying the district president post which include Choudhary Zafarullah, Abdul Majid Khan, Karim Khan, Ram Lal, Gurdev Singh and Taj Mir.
However Azad- Soz head on is likely to affect the election of the candidates with each group lobbying for their candidates.
Sources said that many Congress leaders are lobbying for their candidates while 'Soz-Azad war' is likely to affect the election process in the area. Sources said that some candidates are very close to Ghulam Nabi Azad while some are favorites of Saif-ud-Din Soz.
However, Pradesh Congress has reportedly warned all the party workers to adhere party command and stop making lobbies inside party camp
Following Congress party's decision of holding elections, politics has warmed up in twin border districts with Congress leaders lobbying for their candidates. Congress party has appointed a legislature of Poonch as District Returning Officer for Rajouri and a legislature of Haryana as District Returning Officer for Poonch district.
The election date is yet to be finalized; however various candidates have started lobbying for the polls.
Sources said that though Congress Party has decided to hold elections, the party is trying to unanimously elect its districts presidents because contesting election may brought the internal squabbles of the party in open.
When contacted, DRO of Rajouri and legislature Jahangir Mir said that though election date is not finalized, the process of election has already been started. He said that it is an election and there is no possibility of lobbyism in it. "It is election as delegates have to elect bodies so there is less possibility of lobby system", Mir said adding that the party has various names in the region and there are also some old faces waiting for space in the party. "Though we cannot comment, who is strong and who is weak but there are various faces including those who have scarified for the party for the last many decades", he said.
When asked about the possibility of bickering if they hold elections, Jahangir Mir said that party is thinking to unanimously elect the people on the posts so as to avoid any confronting situation.
