Shabir asks for strict check on power thefts

JAMMU, July 16 : Minister of State for Power Shabir Ahmed Khan convened a meeting of senior officers of Power Development Department at Gladni Receiving Station to review the functioning of department and revenue realization in Jammu province here today.
Minister was apprised that the total target for the year 2010-11 is Rs 573.39 crore against which Rs 93.38 crore has been realized in the first quarter.
During the meeting, Shabir Khan took stock of the revenue realization both from domestic and commercial sectors. He directed the officers to work in coordination to achieve the targets in their respective sub-divisions. Minister directed the concerned authorities to improve the power scenario by upkeeping of existing infrastructure and checking power pilferages so that the people do not face inconvenience.
Shabir was also informed about the consumption of electricity in Jammu, Rajouri, Samba, Kathua, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar districts. He asked the officers to make frequent field visits and keep a strict vigil on power thefts so that revenue losses can be checked and the power scenario can be improved in the state. He stressed upon the concerned officers to conduct monthly meetings so that the departmental day to day problems can be easily solved.
Minister also enquired about the complaints by the people regarding error in billing and for this purpose he directed for regular check of errors occurring during billing and ensure accuracy in the system Shabir also took stock of the installation of e-meters in the districts.
He asked the concerned to install the e-meters in the unmetered areas so that maximum revenue can be realized and uninterrupted power supply would be ensured to the people.
Minister was also apprised by the officers of PDD about the shortage of staff in the department for which Khan said that their genuine demand would be redressed soon on priority.
Senior officers of Power Development Department were present in the meeting.
