Transporters to go on strike on July 20 | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 17: The passenger transport operators on Friday have decided to go on one day strike on July 20 (Monday) across Jammu province seeking enhancement of passenger fare. "We had given an ultimatum to the state collation government toenhance the passengers fare till Saturday but they failed to redress our demands," senior vice president Anil Chopra All Jammu and Kashmir Passenger Welfare Transport Association, told media during a pressconference here. Chopra said that the transporters were compelled by the indifferent attitude of the government due to which, they decided to go on strike. He said that: "We have also contacted to the passenger transporters of Kashmir valley and have decided to hold talks with them on Monday todecide further course of action to press the government to accept their demands."Asked whether the proposed strike of Monday would go indefinite or itis for only one day, Chopra replied to the queries by saying that: "We will take appropriate decision on the same day of strike (July 20)afternoon." Notably, the government had recently decided to enhance nearly 13percent of hike in passenger fare after a threadbare meeting with the transporters recently when the prices of petroleum products were enhanced. However, with the enhancement of prices of petrol and diesels the transporters have been mounting pressure on the government to again enhance the produce, which, will over burden the people. |
